PPL / NEIGHBOURING RIGHTS CLAIMS
How It Works:
The PPL represents performers and recording rightsholders, ensuring they receive royalties when their recorded music is used in public spaces such as DJ sets, Concerts and Venues.
Distribution:
The PPL then distributes these royalties to the performers and recording rightsholders based on their usage.
The PPL’s payment dates are:
- MARCH – International Royalty Distribution
- JUNE – Main UK Royalty Distribution
- SEPTEMBER – International Royalty Distribution
- DECEMBER – International Royalty Distribution
Distinction from PRS:
While PRS focuses on the use of musical compositions (lyrics and melodies), PPL focuses on the use of recorded music,
For example, if a live band plays a song "live", PRS would collect royalties for the songwriters and publishers of that song, while PPL would collect royalties for the performers and record label for broadcast recordings of that song.
